New Delhi: As per the United Nations Population Fund's (UNFPA) ‘India Ageing Report 2023', the number of elderly people in Kerala increased from 16.5 percent in 2021 to 22.8 percent in 2022. Life expectancy is also high here. In Kerala and Himachal Pradesh, the life expectancy of women was found to be higher than men.
It stands at 17.6 percent for males and 21.7 percent for women as per the 2015-19 census. A 60-year-old person in India will live for another 18.3 years more, the report says. Of this, men will live for 17.5 years and women for 21 years more.

However, in Kerala, 60-year-old men will live for 18 years and women for 22 years more on average. The report also discusses the achievements of Kerala government’s ‘Vayomithram’ and ‘Pakal veedu’ programmes. It also mentioned the activities of the Kerala Senior Citizen Service Council (SCSC). It also outlined the state’s efforts to establish memory clinics in every district as a part of the Kerala State Initiative on Dementia.
