Kannur: A 19-year-old woman from Iritty narrowly escaped serious harm after falling onto the platform while attempting to reboard a moving train at Kannur railway station on Sunday. The incident took place around 8 a.m. as she was returning from buying snacks during a brief stop. The CCTV footage of the incident has emerged.

3-minute stop led to accident

The young woman was travelling from Thalassery to Mangaluru on the weekly Puducherry-Mangaluru train (16857). She had disembarked to buy biscuits and other items but was unaware that the train only stops at Kannur for three minutes. Rushing to reboard, she missed her step and fell, leaving her belongings at the shop.

Alerted by passengers, railway police and catering staff quickly informed the driver, who halted the train for her rescue. She was taken to the district hospital, treated for minor injuries, and later continued her journey to Mangaluru on a different train.

This brief halt at Kannur is often overlooked by passengers, occasionally leading to risky attempts to board as the train departs.
