Kozhikode: Malayali transgender couple Zahad and Ziya Pavel welcomed their baby on Wednesday. Zahad, a transman, delivered the baby at the Govt Medical College Hospital here at around 9.30 am.
Ziya and Zahad have decided not to reveal the baby’s sex as of now for “bringing up the baby transcending the limits of religion, caste or gender.”

The couple had already announced that a Caesarean Section would be conducted as Zahad’s gender reassignment procedures had started. To realise Ziya's dream of having their own baby, the process was stalled after his breast removal surgery.
Kozhikode native Ziya is a dancer and dance teacher. Thiruvananthapuram native Zahad, who had been working in a private institution, has been on leave for over a year due to his treatment.
Both of them had left their houses after announcing their gender preference. Zahad’s family is currently offering support to the couple.
Ziya has also started treatment for sex reassignment surgery. Zahad will resume his treatment after one year of delivery.
