Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram: The death of two-year-old Devendu, whose body was found in a well hours after she was reported missing from her residence in Balaramapuram, has now been confirmed as a murder. The child's uncle, Harikumar, has confessed to committing the crime, and police suspect the involvement of the child's mother, Sreetu, in assisting him.
The investigation took a darker turn as contradictions surfaced in the statements given by the family members, who are currently in custody. Devendu was reported missing on Thursday morning, and her body was later found in a nearby well during a search operation by the police and fire department.
The authorities have ruled out any involvement from outsiders and are focusing their attention on family. Reports also indicate that the family is facing severe financial troubles, with debts reportedly amounting to Rs 30 lakh.
Additionally, the family claimed that a fire broke out in the room of the child’s maternal uncle, who is mentally challenged. After the fire was put out, the child was found to be missing.
