Thiruvananthapuram: A state-of-the-art supercomputing centre is set to be established at the Srinivasa Ramanujan Institute for Basic Sciences (SRIBS) near Pampady in Kottayam.

The centre will be used to analyse large volumes of data and deliver quick, research-driven results across scientific domains.

The detailed project plan is in its final stages, and construction is expected to begin next year. The project is estimated to cost ₹100 crore.

The project aims to make supercomputing services widely accessible to the public at an affordable cost. At present, such high-performance computing operations are available only at a few centres in the state, with limited public access. Currently, the use of supercomputing systems with 1,000 processors can cost around ₹1,500 per month. However, the new centre plans to offer these services at significantly lower rates.

As part of the initiative, supercomputing systems will be extended to public sector offices, schools, colleges, and research institutions. Individual user accounts will be created to facilitate access to the system.
