New Delhi: Kerala sent just two cars to receive the Keralites returning from Ukraine. Though the authorities claimed that Kerala House was fully prepared, 14 of the 30 students who arrived on Sunday in Delhi had to struggle to reach the Kerala House.

The first flight from Ukraine landed in Delhi at 3 am on Sunday. The representatives from most of the states arrived at the airport with placards and banners from 2 pm onwards to welcome the returnees. Kerala representatives arrived in two cars while UP and Maharashtra sent luxury Volvo buses.

16 of the 30 Malayali students were sent to Kerala on the next flight itself. Kerala House authorities then took 14 students to the office in two cars. The first trip carried 12 students and their luggage. The other two students and staff had to wait at the airport for another hour for the car to return. The students had to wait to reach Kerala House to get food.

CM talks to S Jaishankar

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the rescue mission of Indians stranded in Ukraine. The Chief Minister appreciated them for the successful rescue operations done so far.

The CM requested that adequate water and food be provided to those who had taken shelter in the bunkers. Also, officials who could handle the Ukrainian language be sent to the border as soon as possible.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting help for stranded students in eastern Ukraine. He also thanked PM for the timely interventions.
