Torrential rains cause damage in Kozhikode & Kannur. One fatality, houses damaged, waterlogging reported. Authorities urge vigilance.

Kozhikode: Torrential rains lashing parts of Kerala have caused widespread damage in Kozhikode and Kannur districts. One person died, several houses were damaged, and many areas experienced severe waterlogging, especially in Kozhikode city.
In a tragic incident near Vellayil Harbour in Kozhikode, a fishing boat capsized after the sea turned rough unexpectedly. Hamsakoya (65), a resident of Gandhi Road, lost his life in the mishap. Two others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The fibre boat and engine, owned by a man named Firoz, were also damaged in a strong wave near the mouth of Kothi on Tuesday morning.
Lightning strikes caused further destruction in the Chekkiad area. Two houses near Koyambram Palam, belonging to Sreedharan and Shantha, were damaged. The electrical wiring in both homes was burned, and structural damage was reported in the kitchen tiles, well cover, and flooring. No one was injured.
Heavy rain also led to the collapse of a wall on KT Gopalan Road in Kottooli. The wall, part of Sadanandan’s house, collapsed around 9:45 a.m. and fell onto the neighbouring house of Valsala, causing partial damage. The wall had been constructed three years ago. No injuries were reported.
In another incident in Kuruva, Kannur, a wall collapsed on two houses belonging to Ushaj and Jasmine. The incident occurred in the morning hours, resulting in property damage, no injuries were reported.
Authorities are urging residents in low-lying and coastal areas to remain vigilant as heavy rains are expected to continue.
