Kerala school holiday on August 3: Schools and colleges will remain closed in Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Kannur, Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kottayam and Idukki, while Alappuzha has announced a partial holiday amid heavy rain alerts.

Thiruvananthapuram: District administrations across Kerala have announced school and college holidays for Monday, August 3, as heavy rain continues to batter the state. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of more rainfall, collectors have ordered the closure of educational institutions in several districts as a precaution.
As of Sunday evening, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Kannur, Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kottayam and Idukki have announced a district-wide holiday for educational institutions. Alappuzha has declared a partial holiday, covering institutions operating relief camps and educational institutions in Chengannur and Kuttanad taluks.
Districts where schools and colleges will remain closed
1. Palakkad
Palakkad district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Monday, August 3, as heavy rain continues in the district.
The holiday applies to professional colleges and all other educational institutions, including madrasas, tuition centres, coaching classes and special classes.
The announcement was made by District Collector considering the prevailing weather conditions.
2. Pathanamthitta
All educational institutions, from anganwadis to professional colleges, along with tuition centres, will remain closed due to heavy rain and flooding reported in different parts of the district.
Public and university examinations will be held as scheduled.
3. Kannur
Kannur district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Monday, August 3, in view of the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
The holiday applies to schools, professional colleges, anganwadis, tuition centres, CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and madrasas and other religious educational institutions.
The order does not apply to residential schools. Previously scheduled university examinations, public examinations and interviews will be held as planned.
4. Kozhikode
All educational institutions, including schools, professional colleges, anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres, will remain closed.
The district administration said online classes can continue, and the holiday will not apply to them.
5. Kasaragod
A holiday has been announced for all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, professional colleges, anganwadis, tuition centres, CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas and other religious educational institutions.
University examinations, public examinations and interviews will be conducted as scheduled.
6. Wayanad
The district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including anganwadis, tuition centres, special classes, madrasas and professional colleges.
The order does not apply to residential schools and residential colleges. Schools and colleges functioning as relief camps will continue to remain closed until further orders.
7. Malappuram
All educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres, will remain closed due to continuing heavy rain.
Previously scheduled university and PSC examinations will not be affected.
8. Thrissur
The district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including anganwadis, nursery schools, CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas, tuition centres and professional colleges, citing heavy rain, waterlogging in some areas and the continuation of relief camps.
Scheduled examinations and interviews will be held as planned.
Authorities have also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, streams, quarries and waterlogged areas, and strictly follow safety instructions in places vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
9. Kottayam
A holiday has been declared for educational institutions across the district as a precaution amid the continuing rain.
In a message to students, the district administration urged them to stay indoors unless travel is essential, avoid rivers, streams, waterfalls, waterlogged roads and landslide-prone areas, spend time with family, read books and use the day safely and responsibly.
10. Idukki
All educational institutions, including professional colleges, schools, madrasas, training institutes and tuition centres, will remain closed as heavy rain and strong winds continue.
The holiday does not apply to fully residential educational institutions.
11. Alappuzha announces partial holiday
Alappuzha has not declared a district-wide holiday. District Collector Shaji V. Nair has announced a holiday for educational institutions functioning as relief camps, including professional colleges, in Chengannur and Kuttanad taluks, anganwadis and tuition centres.
Scheduled examinations will be conducted without any change.
Heavy rain alerts continue across Kerala
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across Kerala over the coming days.
For Sunday (August 2), an orange alert was issued in 12 districts — Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. A yellow alert remained in force for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.
For Monday (August 3), a yellow alert has been issued for 10 districts — Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The weather department has also warned of strong winds of up to 40–50 kmph in parts of the state.
Authorities have advised people to monitor official updates from district administrations, avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert as the wet weather is expected to continue.
