The department has placed several districts under a yellow alert, warning of the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain forecast for Kerala for the next five days, starting Sunday, November 1, 2026. The department has placed several districts under a yellow alert, warning of the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.
Kerala rain alert: Districts under yellow warning
According to the IMD forecast issued on Sunday, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in the following districts on the specified dates:
- November 1 (Sunday): Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki.
- November 2 (Monday): Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
- November 3 (Tuesday): Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
- November 4 (Wednesday): Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram.
The IMD defines heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
Will schools and colleges in Kerala remain closed on Monday?
The possibility of heavy rain has prompted questions about school and college holidays across Kerala on Monday, November 2.
However, the IMD's yellow alert does not automatically result in the closure of educational institutions. Any decision to suspend classes will depend on local weather conditions and an official order issued by the respective district collector or another competent authority.
A holiday declared in one district does not necessarily apply to other districts. Students and parents should therefore check for district-specific announcements before making travel plans.
Parents, students and teachers should follow official announcements from district administrations and educational institutions to confirm whether classes will be suspended on Monday.
