Alappuzha: In a bid to solve the age-old problem of limited food options during train travel, Kudumbashree Mission is launching a series of "takeaway counters" near railway stations, offering travellers a taste of local cuisine.

The initiative aims to address the widespread complaint that good, accessible food is often hard to come by while on the go.

The takeaway counters will offer affordable local dishes which will be set up near railway stations, with a focus on serving quality meals to train passengers.

However, starting a counter on the station platform requires approval from the Railways. In locations where permission isn’t granted, Kudumbashree plans to establish the counters in nearby buildings or through a food truck system.

The first counters will be set up in the Kozhikode and Kannur districts as a trial initiative. These counters will operate outside the stations, with service available from morning to night, until 8 pm.

Based on the success of the initial counters, the program will be expanded to other districts and stations as space becomes available.
