Thiruvananthapuram: A new system is being considered to assign permanent building numbers to houses and other buildings, even when local ward boundaries are redrawn. This will help avoid the need for changing building numbers each time the ward boundaries are revised, which typically happens to adjust for population changes.
Under the proposed plan, each building will be assigned a unique permanent number that includes codes for the state, district, and local body, with the building number being represented by ten digits. This system will ensure that the building number remains the same, regardless of future changes in ward divisions.

No ward number in permanent building ID
The permanent number will not include the ward number, which means that even if a ward is re-delimited, the building’s number will not change. This new system will also allow buildings to be tracked on a digital map created with the QField app, developed by the Delimitation Information by Kerala Mission.
The changes to building numbers will also need to be completed before the preparation of the voter list.
