Thiruvananthapuram: The Estimates Committee of the Kerala Assembly recommended that an annual vacation of at least 10 days should be allotted for police officers who undergo severe stress and physical exhaustion. The committee headed by S Sharma pointed out that this will be helpful for increasing their efficiency.

Due to the inadequate number of officers, case investigation and law and order maintenance are not handled separately in many police stations. Sufficient number of posts should be opened to manage this crisis. The committee also recommended to implement Justice K T Thomas Commission report.

The committee also suggested that a law should be legislated in order to allow the police force utilise the vehicles seized as evidence. A coastal security project should be proposed. The officers should be properly trained and two boats should be given to all stations for patrolling. The training centres should be improved. New training colleges should be started, if necessary.

A District Police Complaint Authority should be formed in every district. Only appeals need to be handled by the state authority so that delay in complaint redressal can be avoided, the committee suggested.
