Kerala police ensure migrant worker Aman Kumar’s ashes reach his family with dignity and care.

Kottayam: When 18-year-old Aman Kumar, a migrant worker from Madhya Pradesh, passed away while receiving treatment at Kottayam Medical College, his family faced the heartbreak of not being able to bring his body home.
Aman had come to Idukki for work but fell ill and sought medical care. After his death, a contractor transported the body to a local mortuary and left the scene. It was then that the Chingavanam police stepped in.
Cremation and the family’s wishes
Speaking with Aman Kumar’s relatives, the police learned the family could not afford to bring the body home. Respecting their wishes, the police arranged for his cremation at Muttambalam crematorium. The family requested that Aman’s ashes be sent to his native place.
Courier services were unable to deliver to Aman Kumar’s address. Eventually, the ashes were sent via postal service. Until the dispatch, they were respectfully kept at the police station.
Respect and gratitude
Civil Police Officer U.R. Prince, who handled the ashes, refrained from consuming fish and meat during this period as a mark of respect for the mortal remains.
After receiving the ashes, Aman Kumar’s family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chingavanam Police Station House Officer Inspector V.S. Anilkumar and Civil Police Officer Sanjith for ensuring the safe and dignified return of their loved one’s remains.
