
Kozhikode: In a serious development, an Intelligence report states that two top CPM leaders in Kozhikode district have unlawful financial dealings with real estate mafia.
In a report submitted to the Home Department 11 months ago, it was pointed out that a real estate businessman from Nadapuram-Parakkadav area, who lives in the city, has close nexus with two top CPM leaders in the district. The direction from the police headquarters was to investigate the activities of some leaders of Kozhikode district.
This real estate businessman had allegedly tried to save a Beypore native who was involved in the controversial parallel telephone exchange case in Kozhikode. According to the report, it was the real estate dealer who gave Rs 7 lakh as booking amount to buy a new vehicle to a senior CPM-CITU leader.
The report also states that these two leaders received Rs 15 lakh to settle a labour dispute in a supermarket in the city and Rs 7 lakh to settle a parking issue at a hotel on Mavoor Road. The call detail record was given along with the report to prove their close relationship with the real estate dealer.
The earlier government decision was that the food items for the nutrition programme implemented through Anganwadis as part of the Integrated Child Development Project should be purchased only from Maveli Store and fair price markets. According to the police report, the two leaders have interfered in amending the order eyeing financial benefits. As a result, it was later decided that these food items can be purchased from stores under Neeti Stores, Cooperative Societies, banks, Thira Maithri Stores of the Fisheries Department etc.
As per the report, a CPM leader from Koyilandy and a Kozhikode-based cooperative institute controlled by him took to the helm along with them to amend the order of the Social Justice Department.
According to the report, they have illicitly acquired the right to distribute these food items worth billions of rupees provided by the Central and State Governments bypassing the Civil Supplies Corporation.
