Thiruvananthapuram: A case is registered against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in connection with serious allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct towards women.
According to reports, the Crime Branch unit of the Kerala Police has registered a suo motu case. Furthermore, the police team has begun efforts to collect statements from the women who came forward with allegations against the Palakkad MLA.

Earlier, sources told Mathrubhumi News that the State Police Chief had instructed officials to register a case under provisions related to the harassment of women.
The development follows Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s comments at a press conference earlier in the day, where he termed the threatening remarks made by Rahul—revealed in leaked phone conversations—as "serious."
Though allegations and disclosures against the MLA have emerged, no woman has filed a direct complaint with the police so far. As a result, the police had initially sought legal advice before proceeding with a case.
Meanwhile, Shinto Sebastian, a High Court lawyer, filed a complaint at the Ernakulam Central Police Station, demanding a criminal investigation into alleged pressure on a woman to undergo a forced abortion. However, police stated that the complaint lacks key details such as the identity of the woman involved and the time or place of the alleged incident. An investigation is yet to begin in that case.
Another complaint against Rahul has reportedly been received in Thiruvananthapuram as well. It is still unclear which specific complaint prompted the DGP’s reported directive to register a case.
Vijayan said Mamkootathil's actions not only reflected "criminal tendencies but also tarnished the image of politics and public life."
Despite widespread criticism from within and outside the Congress, the Opposition leader was "trying to shield him", he alleged.
“He (Satheesan) also got angry and said a lot of things. He should not have stooped to that level. It is not the correct stand on the part of the Congress or the Opposition leader,” Vijayan claimed.
Following the release of audio clips of a purported conversation between the MLA and a woman, the Congress suspended him from the party's primary membership.
Mamkootathil had recently quit as Youth Congress state president after a Malayalam actress accused “a young leader” of a prominent political party of misbehaviour, triggering protests by the BJP and DYFI. He was also facing an internal party probe.
Subsequently, several women and a transgender person came forward with similar allegations.
