Kochi: Uma Thomas, MLA, has come under intense cyber attack after speaking out against Rahul Mamkootathil. The surge in online abuse follows similar attacks on Rini Ann George and other Congress women leaders who raised allegations against Mamkootathil.

Uma’s posts on Facebook and messages shared via WhatsApp have been flooded with abusive and derogatory comments. Critics questioned whether she had the quality to become an MLA, attacked her personally, and suggested she should remain silent at home rather than speak out in politics. Some claimed she received the MLA post over a sympathy factor following the death of her partner and Congress MLA PT Thomas. Threats implied her political position would not protect her if she continued to criticise Rahul.

Call for moral responsibility

Earlier, Uma Thomas, commenting on allegations against Mamkootathil, emphasised the need for moral responsibility in political discourse. She insisted the party should demand Mamkootathil’s resignation. She also noted there had been no prior knowledge of the matter, and had she known earlier, she would have demanded action sooner.
