Thiruvananthapuram: A week-long special drive in Kerala targeting autorickshaw safety has uncovered 3,818 violations and led to the suspension of 59 drivers’ licenses, police said on Wednesday.

The operation, conducted from October 6, aimed to curb the rising number of accidents involving autorickshaws in the state. Between June and August 2025, Kerala recorded 330 autorickshaw-related accidents, including 108 involving pedestrians.

The enforcement drive included checks for speeding, reckless driving, vehicle fitness, and the validity of drivers’ licenses. Alongside inspections, the police conducted around 3,322 awareness campaigns to educate autorickshaw drivers on safe driving practices, speed management, and passenger safety.

Authorities said the inspections will continue and strict action will be taken against offenders. Members of the public can report reckless autorickshaw driving by calling the ‘Shubha Yatra’ number: 9747001099.
