Thiruvananthapuram: Around 300 people have been booked by the Kerala Police following an alleged attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and security personnel after a raid linked to former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, officials said on Wednesday.
Police said the case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including unlawful assembly, rioting, assault on public servants, wrongful restraint and attempt to murder. Provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act have also been invoked.
Among the most serious charges is attempt to murder under Section 109 of the BNS, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison, or life imprisonment if grievous injuries are caused.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), registered at the Museum Police Station, some members of the crowd allegedly attacked officers accompanying the ED team with sticks, leaving one officer injured on the hand. Stones and bricks were also reportedly thrown at vehicles, seriously injuring the driver of one of the cars.
Security personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Kerala Police, who intervened to control the situation, were also allegedly attacked. Several personnel sustained injuries, the FIR stated.
Police further said official vehicles were damaged in the incident, causing losses estimated at around ₹3 lakh. Officials added that the accused are “identifiable”, though no arrests have been made so far and investigations are ongoing. Video footage and other evidence from the scene are being examined.
The FIR stated that the incident occurred after ED officials completed searches at a rented house near Bakery Junction, where Vijayan, currently the Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, and his daughter were staying. The search reportedly began around 7.15 am and continued for more than seven hours.
It added that after completing the operation, ED officials and accompanying personnel attempted to leave in three official vehicles, but were allegedly surrounded by a crowd of around 300 people gathered outside the premises.
The group was reportedly armed with sticks, stones and bricks, and allegedly raised slogans calling for the officials to be killed, according to the FIR.
The ED raids are linked to financial dealings between Vijayan’s daughter’s firm and a sand mining company. As part of the investigation into the CMRL money laundering case, the ED conducted searches at around 10 premises across Kerala, including Vijayan’s rented residence in Thiruvananthapuram and his home in Kannur.
