Pathanamthitta: The police have successfully arrested all the accused involved in the sexual assault of a Dalit girl in Pathanamthitta, who were residing in the country, within 10 days of registering the case. A total of 57 people have been nabbed so far, and efforts are underway to bring back two accused who are abroad. District Police Chief V G Vinodkumar confirmed that legal actions are being taken to ensure their return.

The latest arrest in the case was made on Sunday morning when V S Arun (25) was taken into custody near his house. The first case was filed by the Elavumthitta police on January 10, and a special investigation team was set up the following day. The fifth accused in the first case, S Sudhi, is in jail in a POCSO case registered by the Pathanamthitta police last year. The investigation, which is being supervised by Thiruvananthapuram Range DIG Ajeetha Begum, has been led by the district police chief.

Multiple cases registered across district

A total of 30 cases have been registered across four police stations in the district based on the girl's statement. These cases include 11 in Pathanamthitta, 17 in Elavumthitta, and one each in Pandalam and Malayalapuzha. Notably, two accused in the Pandalam case were arrested on the same day the case was filed, while the accused in the Malayalapuzha case was caught in Chennai. Among those arrested, five are minors.

Once all the accused are nabbed, an identification parade will be conducted. The investigation is still ongoing as police continue to gather evidence and make arrests.

Health Minister Veena George assured the public that an efficient investigation is being carried out into the incident. She also clarified that the government took immediate and appropriate action as soon as the issue was brought to light.
