Pathanamthitta: The District and Sessions Court in Pathanamthitta on Saturday reserved its order on the bail plea of Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in connection with the third rape case registered against him. The court said the decision will be pronounced on January 28.

During the hearing, the prosecution strongly opposed granting bail, stating that the investigation is at a critical stage and that there is a risk of witnesses being influenced.

What are the allegations by victim

Victim alleged that Mamkootathil befriended her through social media in 2024 and later forced her to book a hotel room in Thiruvalla, where he sexually assaulted her. She further claimed that she became pregnant as a result of the incident and later suffered a miscarriage.

Mamkootathil is currently facing three rape cases filed by three different women. In the first case, his anticipatory bail plea is pending before the Kerala High Court, which has granted him interim protection from arrest. The complainant in that case has also opposed bail.

In the second case, the Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram granted him pre-arrest bail, but the state government has approached the High Court seeking its cancellation.

In the third case, Mamkootathil was arrested and has been in judicial custody since January 11. A magistrate court earlier allowed police custody for questioning but later denied bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and the possibility of witness tampering.
