Thiruvananthapuram: Disbanding of the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) apparently over an intelligence report has put forth many questions. From drug mafia - police nexus to framing of individuals for achieving fixed quotas and allied rewards, the conduct of Kerala’s special anti-narcotic team is under the scanner.

Intelligence wing initiated a probe against the DANSAF due to suspicion over seizing of ganja in regions like Chacka and Kumarapuram. In both these areas, the DANSAF team seized kilograms of ganja from roadside and abandoned houses.

110 kilograms of ganja was seized from Chacka, while 150 kilograms of ganja was seized from Kumarapuram. However, no further details on the ganja could be obtained during the follow up investigation. Four individuals from Tamil Nadu were held. But they were unaware about the ganja.

Apparently, cops themselves are bringing Ganja from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It is learnt that intelligence report submitted to the ADGP has flagged these discrepancies. There is a suspicion that police received help from Neyyattinkara racket that smuggled ganja. The report submitted has directed to investigate whether rackets and police are working together.

Reportedly, a team of Kerala police was once held by Andhra Police while bringing ganja. However, due to intervention of higher authorities, the cops were brought back to Kerala. Meanwhile, there are speculations that the special team is busting ganja smugglers in an orchestrated manner to achieve fixed quotas set by higher authorities or due to interest in the allied rewards.
