Periya: Students of the Central University of Kerala staged a protest alleging that stale food was served at the boys' hostel. The protest began around 9.45 pm, with students carrying food containers from the hostel kitchen and demonstrating first on the campus and later in front of the main gate. The allegation is that food prepared in the afternoon was reheated and served at night. Students claimed that the food was inedible.
As they were served allegedly with stale food, hostel inmates gathered in large numbers to protest. Since it was late at night, no officials concerned were present on campus. Consequently, the students staged a sit-in protest in front of the main gate along the national highway. The hostel committee, which includes students, is responsible for purchasing food supplies.
However, the hostel residents alleged that those in charge of cooking were serving stale food. There have been previous complaints regarding the quality of food at the hostel. The SFI unit committee stated that if the authorities fail to take action, they will escalate their protest.
