Kerala: Kerala Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty on Saturday assured that there will be no power cuts or load shedding in the state, despite a recent rise in electricity consumption.

Addressing a press conference, the minister said the government had taken adequate measures to meet a peak demand of up to 600 megawatts. He added that arrangements are already in place to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Krishnankutty said short-term contracts have been signed for the procurement of an additional 300 MW of power, while long-term agreements are in place to purchase 700 MW of electricity. If necessary, depending on weather conditions or technical issues, power may also be procured from the open market.

He noted that electricity consumption has increased significantly in recent days, partly due to households shifting to induction cooktops amid a shortage of LPG cylinders.

The minister urged consumers to regulate their electricity usage wherever possible to help maintain stability in supply. He also said a high-level meeting will be convened soon to review the rising demand and discuss further measures to address it.
