
Ottapalam (Kerala): A student of Sree Vidyadhiraja ITI in Ottapalam sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by a classmate. K.J. Sajan (20), a native of Shoranur, suffered a fractured nose and underwent two surgeries at a private hospital in Thrissur. Ottapalam police said a case has been registered against Kishore, a native of Palappuram, in connection with the incident.
The assault took place on February 19 at 10 am inside a classroom. Both students are in the first year of their automobile engineering course. According to the complaint, Kishore grabbed Sajan while he was seated on a bench, leading to a scuffle. During the altercation, Kishore allegedly hit Sajan in the face, causing serious injuries.

Sajan was initially taken to Ottapalam Taluk Hospital by his father's friend. Due to the severity of the injury, he was later shifted to a hospital in Thrissur. Doctors could not conduct an immediate specialist examination due to swelling near his nose. A subsequent check-up confirmed that his nose bridge was fractured.
Sajan's father, Adv. K.A. Jayachandran said that the surgeries were performed on Friday. The procedures included septoplasty to correct the displacement of the nasal bridge and nasal bone reduction. Hospital authorities stated that Sajan is expected to be discharged on Monday.
Police said the incident began as a casual exchange but escalated into a physical altercation. CCTV footage of the assault has been retrieved. A case for assault has been registered against Kishore, while he has also filed a complaint alleging that Sajan retaliated. However, no case has been registered on his complaint.
ITI authorities said that both students have been suspended for seven days following the incident.
