Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Railways has cleared four new services for Kerala, including three Amrit Bharat trains, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Thiruvananthapuram next week. The Prime Minister is set to inaugurate a total of six new trains, comprising the four allotted to Kerala and two earmarked for Tamil Nadu.

Kerala’s new Amrit Bharat services include the Thiruvananthapuram–Tambaram, Thiruvananthapuram–Hyderabad and Nagercoil–Mangaluru routes. Alongside these long-distance additions, the Railways has also approved a daily Guruvayur–Thrissur passenger service, further strengthening regional connectivity.

Tamil Nadu, meanwhile, will receive two Amrit Bharat trains of its own: the Nagercoil–Cherlapalli and Coimbatore–Dhanbad services.

In a significant infrastructure push, the Centre has also authorised electrification of the Shoranur–Nilambur line. The Prime Minister will additionally unveil 11 stations upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Among the Kerala stations revamped as part of the initiative are Kuttippuram, Changanassery and Shoranur.

The newly sanctioned Guruvayur–Thrissur passenger service is scheduled to operate daily. It will depart Guruvayur at 6.10 pm, reaching Thrissur at 6.50 pm. The return train will leave Thrissur at 8.10 pm and arrive back in Guruvayur at 8.45 pm.
