Thiruvananthapuram: In addition to evaluating driving skills, Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) inspectors in Kerala will now conduct vision checks during driving tests. This decision follows reports of fraudulent eye examination certificates. Minister K B Ganesh Kumar has instructed officials to assess applicants' eyesight during the road test.

Inspectors will verify if applicants can read vehicle numbers and inscriptions from a specified distance on the road. If an applicant's vision is found to be poor, they will undergo further eye testing.

The department has decided to procure eye examination machines for accurate assessments. Applicants will be required to submit a computerized test result along with their eye examination certificate.

This measure aims to ensure that drivers meet the necessary visual acuity standards for safe driving on Kerala's roads.
