Chengannur, Alappuzha: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has mandated the installation of cameras in all school vehicles and contract carriage vehicles from April 1, as per the decision of the State Transport Authority.
According to Chengannur Joint RTO, school buses must be equipped with three cameras covering the front, rear, and interior sections to ensure passenger safety.
Additionally, all contract carriage vehicles, including All India Tourist Permit buses registered in the state, must install cameras capable of recording front and rear views. These cameras should also have sensing features to detect driver fatigue, drowsiness, and mobile phone usage while driving.
The directive further specifies that thick, dark curtains must be used to separate the driver’s cabin from the passenger compartment for added security.
