The plan aims to encourage sustainable waste disposal practices at the household level and reduce the burden on centralised waste treatment systems.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a move to promote source-level waste management, the Kerala government is considering a proposal to offer property tax concessions to households that process organic waste at home.
If implemented, this initiative could result in up to a 5% reduction in building tax for residents who manage biodegradable waste at the source.
The plan aims to encourage sustainable waste disposal practices at the household level and reduce the burden on centralised waste treatment systems.
However, the proposed tax concession may affect the revenue of local self-government bodies, noted Local Self-Government Minister M B Rajesh.
This financial impact will be carefully evaluated before finalising the decision, he added.
