Thiruvananthapuram:  In a notable move, Senior CPI(M) leader K Radhakrishnan, Kerala's sole LDF victor in the recent Lok Sabha elections, tendered his resignation as state Minister today.

Radhakrishnan, who had been serving as Kerala's Minister for Devaswom and Welfare of SC, ST and Backward Classes, as well as Parliamentary Affairs, opted to step down following his triumph in the Alathur constituency. Sources indicate he will head to New Delhi later this month.

A central committee member of the CPI(M), Radhakrishnan presented his resignation letter at the official residence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, expressing his departure with a sense of fulfillment.

Addressing the media post-resignation, Radhakrishnan emphasized his commitment to public service during his tenure as minister.

Prior to his resignation, Radhakrishnan issued a significant directive, urging against the use of the terms "colony," "sanketham," and "ooru" to describe settlements of tribal families. Instead, he proposed employing "nagar," "unnathi," and "prakriti" for such areas, stating that the term "colony" evokes connotations of colonial oppression and should be phased out.

Radhakrishnan secured victory from the Alathur Parliamentary constituency with a decisive margin of 20,111 votes in the April 26 LS polls.
