Mandamangalam (Thrissur, Kerala): Lijo Kachery, the wildlife rescuer who made headlines for reviving a fawn with CPR, has carried out another rare rescue — this time saving a snake found motionless after being trapped overnight in a net. 

The incident occurred in the backyard of Mandamangalam native Rajeev’s residence, where a net had been tied to protect poultry. The snake had remained entangled and immobile throughout Friday night. The family promptly alerted the Mandamangalam Forest Range Office.

Deputy Range Forest Officer Sajeev Kumar and BFO Shruthi S Nair led the forest team to the site on Saturday morning.

Rare CPR given to revive motionless snake

The snake (a rat snake), about five feet in length, showed faint signs of life, prompting a rescue attempt. Lijo cleared the tightened section of the net from around the snake’s neck and provided artificial respiration through its mouth. He then held the snake upside down by its tail to help blood circulate to the brain and continued massaging it.

Interestingly, a video of the incident surfaced on social media, where Lijo is heard saying, "You are saved now, you can go boy."

The snake soon regained strength and slithered away.

Meanwhile, wildlife experts have advised against attempting CPR on snakes, warning that such actions require professional knowledge and can be dangerous if imitated.
