Thiruvananthapuram: The suspense around the Kerala lottery result- BR107 Christmas–New Year bumper has finally ended. The first prize-winning ticket, numbered XC 138455, was sold in Kottayam.
While the lucky winner will officially receive a prize of ₹20 crore, the actual amount credited to their bank account will be much lower after deductions for commission and taxes.
How much money will the winner actually get?
As per Kerala Lottery rules, agents are entitled to a commission of 10 per cent on the prize amount. This means ₹2 crore will go to the agency, leaving ₹18 crore as the taxable prize amount.
From this, 30 per cent tax will be deducted at source (TDS), amounting to ₹5.40 crore. After this deduction, ₹12.60 crore will be credited to the winner’s bank account.
However, the tax liability does not end there. Since the prize amount exceeds ₹5 crore, a surcharge of 37 percent applies, along with a 4 per cent health and education cess.
Final amount in hand
After adding surcharge and cess, the total additional tax comes to approximately:
Surcharge: ₹1,99,80,000
Cess: ₹29,59,200
Once all tax obligations are settled, the winner will be left with around ₹10.3 crore as the final take-home amount.
Palakkad tops ticket sales
Among districts, Palakkad recorded the highest ticket sales with 12,20,520 tickets, followed by Thrissur with 5,44,340 tickets and Thiruvananthapuram with 5,15,090 tickets.
