The UDF is heading for a decisive victory in the Kerala local body elections 2025, gaining control of key municipalities and corporations and dealing a major setback to the CPM-led LDF ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The 2025 Kerala local body elections delivered a sweeping verdict in favour of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).
Across the state, UDF won four out of six corporations, 54 municipalities, 78 block panchayats, and 504 gram panchayats.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) suffered significant setbacks, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) made historic gains, including capturing a Corporation for the first time in Kerala’s history, along with two municipalities and 26 panchayat seats.
The UDF not only regained control of key corporations and municipalities but also increased its presence in block and gram panchayats. Urban centres saw strong UDF performances, while the NDA and smaller parties, including the SDPI, made notable inroads.

Today is a day to recall the work and struggles of generations of Karyakartas in Kerala, who worked at the grassroots, which ensured today's result became a reality. Our Karyakartas are our strength, and we are proud of them!," his post added.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that Thiruvananthapuram has spoken with hope and conviction, ushering in a new chapter by ensuring the BJP's stunning performance in the Municipal Corporation in the Kerala local body polls.
"We are very confident that the BJP will secure a good margin in the central Kerala belt, and we will also achieve a strong victory this time in South Kerala. People who have traditionally depended on the UDF and Kerala Congress will shift their support to the BJP this time," he told ANI
