Kottayam: Two siblings were injured after being struck by lightning during a heavy thunderstorm in Kottayam on Friday. The incident took place near Marangattupilly in Andoor, around 7 p.m. as intense summer rains accompanied by strong winds hit the region.
Ann Maria (22) and Andrews (17) were at home when the lightning struck. They were immediately rushed to Mar Sleeva Medicity Palai for treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of their injuries, though both are under medical care.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning earlier in the day, predicting moderate rain along with thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h in isolated areas of Alappuzha and Kottayam districts over the next few hours.
With the region currently experiencing severe weather conditions, local authorities have urged residents to take extra precautions and stay indoors.
