Thrissur: The Agriculture Department has stopped the move of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development (KINFRA) to use the 27 acres of land bought at Ayyanthol for the industrial park. The land was bought from the District Industries Centre 10 years ago.
The secretary of the Agricultural Department has sent a letter to the Managing Director of KINFRA pointing out that the levelling of land and building factories in thes plot will cause severe impact on the environment.
The letter specified that the land bought by KINFRA is located in an ecologically fragile area and waterlogging occurs here due to the construction activities. Apart from this, any further constructions will adversely affect the paddy farming in the north eastern regions of this plot.
KINFRA had initiated the procedures to allow investors and industrialists to take up the 27 acres of land for new projects. But the intervention of the Agriculture Department has hindered the plans of KINFRA.
