Kochi: While observing that this is not the time for indulging in blame games, the Kerala High Court has appointed an amicus curiae to resolve the issue between the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and the Indian Railways over waste removal from the Amayizhanchan canal.
The court has expressed shock and grief over the death of sanitation worker Joy, who drowned in the canal during the cleaning work, and has asked the parties concerned to ensure that no such unfortunate incidents occur in the future.
While intervening in the issue, the HC has asked to find a speedy solution to the ongoing tussle between the corporation and the railways. The court asked the amicus curiae to visit the place and submit a detailed report in connection with the problem.
"The corporation should intervene immediately to stop the dumping of plastic waste into the canal. The responsibility to remove the waste from the railway's land solely rests with them, and they should do it as early as possible," the High Court said.
"Such tragic incidents should not occur again due to a dispute of power. The parties involved should resolve the problem as early as possible and also ensure that such tragic incidents do not happen again," the court said.
