Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures in Kerala are expected to rise further over the coming days, with a yellow alert issued across 12 districts due to persistent heat conditions.

According to officials, high temperatures are likely to continue until the 15th of the month, with both daytime heat and humidity contributing to increased discomfort levels. The “heat index,” which measures the combined effect of temperature and humidity, is expected to make conditions feel significantly hotter than recorded readings.

At present, Palakkad district has recorded temperatures reaching around 40 degrees Celsius, while Kannur has reported approximately 39 degrees Celsius. Meteorological officials have indicated that temperatures could rise by an additional two to three degrees in the coming days, increasing the risk of heat-related stress.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm, when heat intensity is at its peak. People have also been urged to stay hydrated by drinking sufficient water and to take necessary precautions, especially those working outdoors or in physically demanding conditions.

Officials have further cautioned against the spread of misinformation on social media regarding weather conditions, stressing that residents should rely only on official updates issued by the Meteorological Department for accurate information and safety guidance.

The advisory comes as Kerala experiences a seasonal rise in temperatures, with weather experts closely monitoring conditions across affected districts.
