Kochi: The Kerala High Court ordered a probe after a confidential letter pertaining to preventive detention on COFEPOSA sent by DGP got leaked to a gold smuggling case accused. The matter should be probed by an official in SP rank and action should be taken against concerned persons, the court said.
DGP had sent a letter with a secret label to Malappuram police in connection with preventive detention over COFEPOSA against a few accused. However, Fazlu Rahman, one of the accused, got to know about this and went underground. The person also filed a plea against the DGP’s order with the copy of it.
Deputy solicitor pointed out that the accused had a copy of the the order itself.
According to the police district chief’s affidavit, the order might have got mixed up with another detention order and Fazlu Rahman would have got information from him. The court expressed displeasure over the reply, while it granted permission to withdraw Fazlu Rahman’s plea.
