Kerala bans political flags, signs and symbols in temples under Devaswom Department guidelines.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has directed that symbols, signs, flags and decorative hangings of political organisations are not allowed inside or premises of temples. The Devaswom Department has issued strict instructions to this effect.
The order also bans single-colour flags, pictures of individuals linked to political organisations or movements, and publicity materials that create or promote religious or communal rivalry. These rules apply to temples under the control of Devaswom Boards and those receiving financial assistance from the government.
The government’s decision comes in line with various directions and orders previously issued by the Kerala High Court. The restrictions must also be strictly ensured during festival seasons.
Special rules in Thrissur
When the Thekkinkadu Maidan in Thrissur is temporarily rented for public programmes, flags or hangings will only be permitted outside the temple compound wall and within temple-owned land or buildings, and only with approval from the Devaswom Commissioner or Administrative Officer.
Circular for public awareness
The government has also instructed that the circular containing these guidelines must be displayed prominently in temples for public awareness.
