Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) was allowed to re-plant eucalyptus trees in the forest, bypassing the ban of the Union Ministry of Forests. The application submitted by the corporation for this purpose was rejected by the Ministry of Forests and the Kerala Forest Consultative Committee. The government accepted the application of the managing director of the corporation and gave permission.
Forests are in the Concurrent List of the Constitution. So the state forest department cannot allow what the center has denied and so the order will have to be withdrawn. The forest department will give a report to the government in this regard. It is likely to be withdrawn or frozen accordingly.
