Thiruvananthapuram: While the state treasury is reeling under financial crisis, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has spent a total of Rs 72.09 lakh in the past two years for medical treatments at Mayo Clinic in United States of America. The total cost includes expenses for ticket fares, accommodation and food for those accompanying Vijayan, including his wife. 

Meanwhile, it is still unclear what treatment was received by the Chief Minister at Mayo Clinic. 

In 2022, the state spent Rs 29.82 lakh and Rs 42.27 lakh between January 11 and 27 and April 26 and May 9 on CM's medical bills. The General Administration Department has approved Vijayan's request to disburse the amount and issued an order. 

Between April and December 2022, Rs 47,796 was granted for Vijayan's wife Kamala's treatment at the legislative hostel's health clinic. Vijayan also spent Rs 28,646 at the same health clinic for treatment. Between April 16 and August 15, the state released Rs 42,057 for Vijayan and Kamala's medical treatment at the health centre.
