Alappuzha: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan put forward two proposals during his meeting with CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam at the Alappuzha Guest House on Monday, in line with the decisions in the CPM State Secretariat.

The Chief Minister suggested forming a sub-committee, including ministers, to study the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme and initiating a discussion within the Left Front to review and ensure policy matters. However, Viswam remained firm on his sole demand, the cancellation of the PM SHRI Scheme MoU. The discussion lasted for about an hour and ended without a resolution.

Following the meeting, the Chief Minister held separate talks with Minister of Land Revenue K Rajan, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies GR Anil and Minister for Agriculture P Prasad, who were also at the guest house, for about 20 minutes. Before leaving for the conclusion of the Punnapra-Vayalar week, Vijayan once again met the CPI ministers for a brief five-minute discussion.

Sources indicated that the ministers expressed dissatisfaction over the signing of the scheme without prior notice. After the Chief Minister’s departure, the CPI Secretariat convened a meeting at the guest house and decided to stand firm on its earlier position. Later in the day, Vijayan and Viswam appeared together on stage at the Punnapra-Vayalar Martyrs’ commemoration event.

Earlier in the morning, the CPI State Executive Committee had resolved not to dilute its political stance and to face any ensuing challenges.

After the series of meetings, Viswam declined to comment when asked by reporters whether CPI ministers would withdraw from the Cabinet or abstain from its next meeting.
