Kannur: A young boy named Devatheerth, who is battling cerebral palsy, climbed onto his mother’s shoulder and sang a song composed by him in front of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

“Kerala’s pride, a shelter for everyone…” the song went, with Devatheerth singing, “Pinarayi: Like a shining star…” Hearing this, the Chief Minister smiled and asked everyone to give a round of applause. “That’s a really awesome song,” he said, appreciating the boy’s effort.

Devatheerth’s mother, Prajisha, later revealed that the poem was written hurriedly that very morning when her son was informed that they were going to meet the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister asked whether they had published any of his poems as book. Prajisha said no and added that they need support.

When Prajisha mentioned that Devatheerth is studying in Class 10, the Chief Minister reminded him gently, “You should pass your exams too!” To this, the mother assured him that her son will achieve A+ in all subjects.

It was with the hope of seeking medical assistance for himself and his brother Dhyan Krishan, who is a heart patient, that Devatheerth arrived at the MLA office in Pinarayi by clinging on his mother’s shoulder to meet the Chief Minister. Devatheerth, who lost mobility of his legs due to cerebral palsy, cannot walk. Prajisha must carry him wherever she goes. Despite these challenges, Devatheerth writes poems, composes tunes, and even draws by holding a brush in his mouth. In 2024, he was awarded the Ujjwala Balyam Award recognising his immense talents. Prajisha mentioned this to the chief minister during their meeting.

Devatheerth’s younger brother, Dhyan Krishna, who is in Class 2, is also under treatment for a heart-related illness. Prajisha shared these details with the Chief Minister, and he promised that the government would examine the situation and do whatever was necessary. Filled with hope after receiving this assurance, Prajisha and her son returned home.
