Thiruvananthapuram: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, M R Ajith Kumar has been warned for travelling abroad without informing the Government.
The Chief Secretary has warned Ajith Kumar as he traveled to Singapore for 10 days just after the Lok Sabha elections.
The explanation of ADGP, however, is that the journey was conducted with the permission of the Election Commission as the Election Code of Conduct was in place then. At election time, the officers are under the control of the Commission. He explained that the journey was made after informing the Commission through the Chief of Police and seeking permission. The charge of Law and Order was given to the Crime Branch ADGP before leaving, he said. The same was communicated to the police chief also, he added.
However, when the Election Commission later handed over the related documents to the Government, it became clear that the ADGP's foreign trip was done without informing the Government. Following this, the Chief Secretary sought an explanation from the Chief of Police. When the police chief sought an explanation from the ADGP, he then responded that it was the Election Commission which had to inform the government about the travel.
The Chief Secretary, however, warned the ADGP that such action should not be repeated.
