Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal on Thursday announced the rollout of MediSep 2.0 from February 1, expanding benefits under the government’s medical insurance scheme for state employees.
The upgraded scheme will offer enhanced coverage and include more hospitals under its network, he said while presenting the State Budget 2026 in the Assembly.

In a major relief for retirees, Balagopal also announced a new medical insurance scheme for retired government employees on the MediSep model. The scheme will also be extended to employees of cooperative institutions and public sector undertakings, providing insurance coverage similar to MediSep.

The Finance Minister also announced a group insurance scheme for members of the Haritha Karma Sena, the state’s green workforce engaged in waste management activities.
In addition, pensions for patients suffering from cancer, leprosy and other serious illnesses have been increased to ₹2,000 per month. Auto and taxi workers will be brought under an insurance scheme, while children between the ages of one and 10 will receive accident insurance coverage.
