Thiruvananthapuram: In a direct attack on the LDF government, Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan questioned the Chief Minister's silence on the allegations involving his daughter Veena Vijayan and her firm. He added that CPM is "standing guard" to extortion involving Vijayan's family.

"Why those in power is maintaining silence over reports on Veena Vijayan and her firm of receiving monthly payment?" he asked while speaking during the session in Kerala Assembly on Monday.

"It was the CPM state secretariat who responded to allegations of Veena Vijayan and her firm receiving Rs 1.72 crores from a firm involved in mining at Alappuzha coastal area. CPM had to such a state that it had become a party standing guard to a family involved in extortion," he said.
