Actor Dileep’s acquittal in the high-profile Kerala actress assault trial prompts Malayalam film actresses to support the survivor, reigniting conversations about justice in cinema.

Kerala: Parvathy Thiruvothu took to Instagram following actor Dileep’s acquittal in the high-profile Kerala actress assault case, describing the events as resembling a "well-written script unfolding in a brutal reality". She wrote, "And now we watch a carefully crafted screenplay unfold so cruelly now."
Prominent actors Rima Kallingal and Remya Nambeesan also expressed solidarity with the survivor. Rima shared a photo on Instagram holding a banner reading “Avalkkoppam” (With her), which she had raised in support of the survivor during the original incident in 2017. Shortly afterwards, Remya Nambeesan posted the same image, reaffirming her support.
Hours prior to the verdict, both Rima and Remya shared notes reflecting on the history of the eight-year-long legal battle.
The case, which involved the assault of an actress and filming of defamatory footage, had seen Dileep charged with criminal conspiracy. The trial began on March 8, 2018 and was conducted in secret, with a female judge appointed in accordance with the survivor’s request.
The verdict marks a significant moment in a case that has drawn intense public attention and debate in Kerala over the years, raising discussions on justice for survivors of sexual assault in the film industry.
