Alappuzha: Thoppil Bhasi’s play 'Shelter' was on stage. After the final scene, as the audience began to rise, an announcement came, the actor who played the lead role was getting married on stage. Hearing this, even those standing on the nearby beach rushed to the venue.

A dramatic wedding unfolded on the Alappuzha beach on Monday night as part of the CPI state conference. Actor Prasanth Thrikkalathoor, a native of Muvattupuzha, and Chinju, a nurse from Kollam, tied the knot on stage. In the presence of hundreds gathered to watch the revolutionary play, CPI Kerala state secretary Binoy Viswam joined the couple in marriage.

Prasanth said it had long been his wish to marry on stage because art is a part of life. Chinju, who also loves theatre, once gifted him a book on drama as her first present. Both said they were delighted to see their wish fulfilled on stage.

The play 'Shelter' portrays an episode in the life of Thoppil Bhasi while in hiding. After sheltering Bhasi, a Pulaya family had to sacrifice their son’s life, a story brought to stage by Muvattupuzha Real View Creations.

Prasanth and Chinju first met by chance on a train, a meeting that blossomed into a love lasting a year and a half. A wedding ceremony will also be held later in Muvattupuzha.
