CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has declared that he has no plans to contest in the upcoming Kerala assembly polls. He added that it was his personal decision.

“The party will reveal further details,” said Kodiyeri.

Though he is not facing the polls as a candidate, he is one among the leaders who coordinate the election campaign.

“LDF is holding talks with the allies. After the talks, seats will be divided. Later, CPM’s internal matters will be discussed. A final decision on every matter will be taken with the announcement of the election date,” said Kodiyeri.

The CPM leader also revealed LDF’s criteria for selecting candidates.

“Those who won the polls continuously twice will not be fielded again. But in some circumstances, relaxations will be given. Scope of victory will be a major element in some constituencies. We need a team who can lead the government in future. So all elements will be considered while choosing the candidates. We are planning to bring a new team including youth, professionals and celebrities,” described Kodiyeri.

Talking about the alliance with Congress in some states, Kodiyeri asserted that CPM is not aiming to create Congress-free India.

“CPM wants to build a secular India, not a Congress-free India,” pointed out the leader.

Meanwhile, Kodiyeri hailed the LDF government’s sensible approach to avoid violence in Sabarimala over the SC verdict on women entry.

“We will hold conciliatory talks with everyone once the court issues the order on the review petition,” he added.
