Kozhikode: Election campaigning for the Kerala assembly polls and Lok Sabha bypolls in Malappuram constituency will come to an end on Sunday.

Though the Election Commission banned ‘Kottikalasam’, the high-spirited grand finale of the campaign, political parties and followers are actively engaged in the last lap of the campaign.

The open election campaign will officially conclude by Sunday evening. But silent campaign will continue till the polling day.

The election for the 15th assembly will be conducted in 140 constituencies on Tuesday.

Many national leaders of the major political parties visited Kerala for election campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, union minister Amit Shah and CPM leader Brinda Karat attended the election campaign events in Kerala.

Amidst the campaign, Congress and BJP have been raising allegations against CPM-led LDF government in the state.

Sabarimala still remains a heated topic of the campaign for both Congress and BJP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also pointed out Sabarimala issue while addressing an event in Konni. It is alleged that CPM and Pinarayi Vijayan government supported violation of customs in Sabarimala.

At the same time, Congress has come out with a fresh allegation against the LDF government over a n alleged contract with Adani group for power supply. Adani’s visit to Kannur has also come under scanner.

More allegations are expected on Sunday which marks the last leg of the election campaign.

The election commission banned ‘Kottikalasam’ in view of the surging COVID cases. Bike rallies will not be allowed. At the same time, roadshow and mike announcement are allowed till a fixed time.

Open poll campaigning will be held till 6 pm at Naxal affected areas in Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kannur. Meanwhile, campaign is allowed in other places till 7 pm on Sunday.

The distribution of polling equipment will be held on Monday.
