Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is mulling a major reshuffle in the top brass of Kerala police. It is learned that there is a possibility of changes in posts from DGP to other higher officials.
The state government will select the new DGP on May 24. It is hinted that Tomin J Thachankary is likely to be the new state police chief.
Meanwhile, the probe against Thachankary over disproportionate assets has already completed. But the vigilance didn’t submit the report yet.
At the same time, ADGP Sudesh Kumar who is likely to be considered for the DGP post will face a setback due to the case against her daughter.
The state government has prepared a list of officials who are eligible for DGP post and submitted it for the centre’s approval.
After examining the list, the union home ministry will hand over a shortlist to the state on May 24. The DGP will be selected from this shortlist.
At present, Tomin J Thachankary who is the incumbent Managing Director of KFC is likely to be elevated to the post of DGP.
Meanwhile, if incumbent DGP Loknath Behera didn’t leave for central deputation before vacating the DGP post, the government will appoint him as CIAL MD or CM’s police advisor.
The government is impressed with Behera’s performance during the reign of the first Pinarayi Vijayan government.
Former DGP Raman Srivastava was the CM’s police advisor during the last reign of the LDF government.
Hence, the home department has recommended giving the best post to him.
If the government didn’t replace Raman Srivastava, Behra will get the post of CIAL MD.
With the appointment of the new DGP, Kerala police will have a huge makeover. The government is mulling for a complete reshuffle in the department.
There are chances for relaunching the police commissionerate system which shelved due to protests in the reign of the last government.
The police commissionerate system faced criticism over granting more powers to the police.
